Ferarri 196 SP Dino

Ferrari-196-SP-Dino_11From Wouter Melissen, “Originally fitted with a 2.4 litre V8 engine, chassis 0806 was first raced in the 1962 Sebring 12 Hours by the North American Racing Team (NART). Peter Ryan and John Fulp finished 13th after starting ninth.

The car was returned to the factory and fitted with a slightly larger version of the V8 and entered by the works team for the Rodriguez brothers in the Nürburgring 1000 km. They set the fastest time in qualifying but retired early in the race as the result of a spin. Back in Maranello, a V6 engine was fitted and the car was rebuilt to 196 SP specifications. It was subsequently sold to the United States where it was raced by Doug Thiem, Bob Grossman and Tibor von Imrey with considerable success.

Ferrari-196-SP-Dino_12Following its contemporary racing career, it passed through the hands of the some of the most prominent collectors, including Pierre Bardinon and Fabrizio Violati. Today the car is owned by an American enthusiast, who has both raced and shown the car in the most prominent events.
